TUTORIAL: how to make a wood text effect

Today I will teach you how to get an interesting procedural wood text effect. Wood style is a traditional text effect, and usually it's a hard one to make from scratch.

Fortunately, we can use a nice text maker and leave all the hard work to it.

Let's do it. Go to this wood text effect and configure it this way:
- Text: Far West (I used this text as example, you choose yours);
- Font size: Normal;
- Margin: 3;
- Background color: FFFFFF;
- Font name: Edmunds.

So you get this (click to enlarge):

Extra tips:
- The chosen font helped to achieve the desired look. Some fonts really don't match a wood effect;
- You can try the same effect with a brown background color. Some people think this way you get an even better overall wood appearance;
- This text generator catalog has more wood text effects to play with.
